Sangrita

This is a fresh tomato based beverage that has a kick to it and pairs perfectly with a shot of tequila. I like enjoying the combinations of all of the flavors of this beverage and its accompaniments. Do sip not chug. Everyone has heard of the lime and the salt, but maybe not the Sangrita. Probably because it is not easily found in our stores, but no worries, here is a recipe that is quick and simple. I am sure with fresh tomatoes from the garden it will take on a fresher flavor. This will make about 4 – 2 oz. sized shot glasses. The ones pictured are a smaller version that are about 1 oz.

Ingredients

Sangrita
1/2 cup of fresh tomatoes pureed and strained to remove skin and seeds
(about two Roma tomatoes)
1/3 cup of freshly squeezed lime juice
1/2 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon of Tabasco sauce
A sprinkle of kosher salt less then ½ teaspoon
Accompaniments
Tequila 100% agave
Lime wedges
Kosher salt

Technique

Blend tomatoes in a blender until pureed. Strain to remove seeds and skin. In a small pitcher combine pureed tomatoes and all other ingredients. Pour into shot glasses and serve along with shot glasses of tequila, lime wedges and kosher salt as shown.

Lick your hand, pour a little kosher salt on it, lick the salt off, sip the tequila, suck on the lime wedge and sip the Sangrita. Repeat and enjoy!
