Sangria is a classic Spanish beverage that can be mixed up many different ways. This one features citrus. Use a brut style cava, which is dryer and the addition of the liqueur and citrus will complement it beautifully. However, if you are looking for a sweeter taste, use a sweeter style cava. If you are looking for more of a citrus taste, use more fruit or do as some of my guests were doing by adding more of the liqueur. If you want to try a different kind of sangria see my Raspberry Sangria recipe. The ingredient amounts will serve four. Adjust amounts accordingly to the number of guests serving.
Ingredients
1 bottle of cava, a Spanish sparkling wine chilled
1 cup of orange liqueur, such as, Grand Marnier or Cointreau
2Â small oranges, preferably Spanish Valencia oranges sliced
2 lemons sliced
2 limes sliced
Technique
In a large pitcher add orange liqueur add the fruit. Let sit for about an hour at room temperature. Do not open cava until ready to serve. When ready to serve add cava. Remove any seeds that float to the top. Pour up and enjoy a taste of Spain! Sometimes you may need to add a few cubes of ice for a hot sunny day!
